Mr. Alok Mohan is an Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer and he is presently serving as the Additional Director General of Police in charge of Law and Order for the state of Karnataka and heads the law enforcement machinery for the Karnataka State Police. He has more than 30 years of Senior Management experience at the State, National and International Levels.

Educational Qualifications

  • He holds three Masters Degrees and is an alumni of the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA, Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) School of Public Policy, Singapore University, Singapore, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee.
  • Mr. Alok Mohan completed his Master of Science (M.Sc.) with Honours in 1985 from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, and Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in 1987 from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
  • He completed his Master in Public Management (MPM) in 2012 from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA and Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) School of Public Policy, Singapore University. His specialisations during the Masters in Public Management include Home Land Security Management, Strategic Management, Strategic Communications, Decision making, public policy management among others.

International Professional Training Experience

  • Mr. Alok Mohan has attended the Civilian Police Training at the United Nations Field Training Institute at Zagreb, Croatia.
  • He was among a selected few IPS officers to be part of the prestigious ‘Command Course for the Senior Police Officers ’ with the British Police wherein he had close interaction with the Senior Officers from the London Metropolitan Police, Scotland Yard Police, West Yorkshire Police, Birmingham Police etc.
  • He attended the Advanced Management Programme of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) Hyderabad in 2009 wherein he got management inputs at the Management Institute at Maastricht, Netherlands and had close interaction with the top management of the Multinationals at the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France and Switzerland.

Mr. Alok Mohan is not an ordinary human being, he is an Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer of 1987 batch of the Karnataka State. He is currently serving to State of Karnataka as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in charge of Law and Order.

When he is serving as Inspector General of Police (IGP), in Mangalore he is promoted as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP). He is credited for the reduced crime rate in Mangalore during his strict actions as IGP.

He is sent to abroad for advanced Training in Harvard University, USA to earn the prestigious Masters in Public Management Program. He is the first senior police officer from Karnataka to be selected for advanced training in abroad.

Mangaluru: ADGP Alok Mohan Discusses Tight Security Arrangements For ZP and TP Elections

Mangaluru: ADGP (Law & Order) Alok Mohan held a press meet to discuss the security arrangements undertaken for the ZP & TP elections in the Western Range at the Police Commissioner’s Office here, on February 17.

Addressing the mediapersons, ADGP Alok said, “Already the first phase of the elections have concluded in Uttar Kannada and the second phase will be held in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts that come under the Western Range (WR). There are 2737 polling booths in the WR of which 268 are marked as hyper-sensitive, 732 are sensitive and 1583 are normal. In Mangaluru, 42 booths are marked as hyper-sensitive, 134 sensitive and 186 are normal booths.”

He further said, “There are 164 booths that come under the naxal affected areas of which, 61 are identified in Dakshina Kannada, 64 in Udupi and 39 in Chikkamagaluru. These booths will be guarded by special armed units and Anti Naxal Force (ANF) will conduct routine combing operations in these areas. We have a strong police force with 2500 personnel and additional 3000 police personnel will be stationed with 2000 home guards and special commandos during the election phase.”

“There has been no reported issue pertaining to naxalites in the area from the past year or so; the only problem we have is with the border along Kerala state and we have had co-ordination meetings with the police of Kerala and Goa who have helped us by setting up check posts along the border. Other preventive measures include placing all habitual offenders under preventive custody. In the WR, 16 people are booked under the Goonda Act from last December, of which 3 are from Mangaluru. The number of offenders booked under the Goonda Act all over the state is around 100,” ADGP Alok said.

Alok Mohan Promoted as ADGP, Sent Abroad for Advanced Training Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore

Alok Mohan, who served as Inspector General of Police, (Western Range), Mangalore from August 2010 to December 2011 has been promoted as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Recruitment and Training, Bangalore. He took charge of the post on January 2.

Alok Mohan was transferred from Mangalore last month and Pratap Reddy was appointed as his successor. He was not given any post at the time of transfer.

Now, the state government has announced his appointment as the ADGP.

Alok Mohan, who takes the credit for the reduced crime rate in Mangalore during his stint as IGP, has been one of the most admired top police officers in the region. His ‘talk less – act more’ principle helped him in controlling communal disturbances as well as other kinds of crimes in the Western Range.

The 51-year-old, 1987 batch IPS officer is considered as one of the most upright  police officers in the state.

Alok Mohan is now leaving for LKY School of Public Policy, University of Singapore and Kennedy School of Governance at Harvard University, USA for one year, to earn the prestigious Masters in Public Management Programme.

There are only four senior civil servants deputed by the government of India for this year-long course. The four officers are Alok Mohan, Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, secretary (tourism), Andhra Pradesh, Sanjeev Ranjan,  joint secretary (ministry of agriculture), government of India, and T K Anil Kumar, IAS, director (census), Bangalore, Karnataka.

They will be part of a select group of 25 senior civil servants from different countries. The officers will spend 6 months in University of Singapore and 6 months at Harvard University in Boston, US.

These officers will be exposed to world class Public Management Techniques which they can apply to improve the public management in different areas in the Government in India. They will also be attached to different ministries and departments of Singapore for 6 weeks during their stay there, and will have a first-hand experience of the working of the Singapore government and public service.

Alok Mohan is the first senior police officer from Karnataka to be selected for this course. He has also been on other international assignments like International Police Task Force of the United Nations Peace Keeping in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Senior Command Course of the British Police where he was with the Scotland Yard Police and London City Police, Advanced Management Programme of Maastricht University, Netherlands and Administrative Staff College of India.
